Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do, was the 2nd capital of Baekje Dynasty (18 B.C. ~ 660 A.D.) where the country flourished the most in a variety of aspects. The dynasty is well-known for its exquisite architectural skills, delicate arts and highly advanced culture.

Buyeo City has approximately 52 historic materials designated by the South Korean Government so in summary, the city is a complete conglomeration of Baekje's history and culture. It's been proved that some of the Japanese population in Osaka are the descendants of Baekje dynasty, mainly of those who moved to Japan to export Baekje's architectural techniques.

Even though the dynasty collapsed due to the invasion by the union of Silla Dynasty (Korean) and Tang Dynasty (Chinese), the history and culture are still highly regarded as the most advanced one of the time.

Baekje Cultural Land is Asia's biggest history theme park, with the scale of 3,299 thousand square meters in total. As you can tell by its enormous size, the park is packed with re-created architectures of Baekje Dynasty, ranging from palaces, pagodas to the local villages that show the lifestyle and houses of the regular Baekje people.

There are 4 main areas ; Sabigung Palace, Neungsa Temple, Village and Wiryesung, the capital city.

From the exact moment you enter Baekje Cultural Land, you will feel like you just got teleported to Baekje Dynasty. The massive scale of realistic re-creations are everywhere each of which has a distinctive theme and character.

The first thing you see is Jeongyangmun Gate as the main entrance of the park. There's a large plaza in between the gate and Sabigung Palace. Located in the middle is the 18-meter-tall Junggungjeon (Middle palace), the biggest and the most administratively important building. There are 2 more buildings next to Junggungjeon, called Donggungjeon and Seogungjeon, meaning east (dong) palace and west (seo) palace. Both of the buildings were used as an office place or a conference room for government officials.

Inside the palace buildings are the displays of royal costumes, re-creations of offices, etc. The costumes displayed range from regular clothes worn on a daily basis to special clothes for main events like coronation ceremonies, new-year events or greeting foreign envoys.

Donggungjeon was used for admin officials and Seogungjeon for military officials.

Since Baekje Dynasty was a highly Buddhist society, there used to be a number of temples originally. However most of them were destroyed when the dynasty was invaded by neighbor countries.

Neungsa 5 storied wooden pagoda is 38 meters in height and the exact re-creation of the actual (but damaged) remains excavated in the area. Daeungjeon is where the people came in to pay respect to the Buddha statue there so the building was considered a very sacred, crucial part of the community / palace.

Gungnamji, meaning the pond on the south of the palace (Gung : palace, Nam : south, Ji : pond), is the first artificial pond throughout the country history. The historical records say that the king loved the pond, throwing small parties and sometimes relaxing. Originally called Danjidaeji back in Baekje Dynasty, Gungnamji was actually a lot larger. It's assumed that the pond was 3 times bigger than the current size for around 30 thousand square meters in size.

The technique of making an artificial lake like Gungnamji back in the days seemed impossible but Baekje did it successfully and beautifully. Their gardening skills had a considerable amount of impact on neighbor countries.

Gungnamji is an absolute beauty, boasting that picturesque scenery regardless of seasons. It's claimed that spring and summer is the best season to visit the pond, when all the flowers bloom and the trees turn vivid green making the place even more breathtaking.

There's a total of 7 royal tombs of Baekje Dynasty in the Baekje Royal Tomb Park. The tombs are categorized in 3 ways ; small (within 20 meters), medium (20 ~ 25 meters) and large (25 ~ 30 meters).

6 of the tombs were found in the Japanese Colonial Era, where most of the treasures inside were taken away unfortunately. Last one piece of tomb was discovered during the revamping construction of the site in 1971.

Not only do the tombs look unique on the surface, but also does the interior of them. The site is Historical Material No.14 of South Korea and also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
